Form Follows Obsession

Lately I’ve been obsessed with a shape that keeps appearing in my mind. It’s the curve of a feminine body. Like an S, drawn quickly and sharply at first and then languidly until the brush stalls out.

I don’t know why I am “receiving” this image, but it is persistent. So I have been painting versions of this form repeatedly in different works.

Of course it has taken many forms, but in this work I particularly enjoyed making these Ss over and over again, making space for other curvilinear shapes to find thier way in.

Being the interior designer that she was, my mother once painted our bathroom walls by hand, in similar cascading geometric shapes. Perhaps I am recreating her olddesigns in new way.
